Ohope Beach

Wind 17 to 20 knots NNW to N

The forecast northerly has been building all night, so as soon I could get my gear together I was out on the beach. It had been a while so it was good to feel the pull of the kite and the exhilaration of speeding along close to the ground once more. My first run produced a pleasant 58.4 kph max so I knew straight away it was going to be a good session. After 90 minutes and 5 or 6 speed runs in between showers I ended the session with a max of 59.8 kph and an average run of 54.3 over 875 m. Not a great session but a good one, especially after so long away.

Usually I'm the only person out on the beach using the wind, but today I was joined by a couple of kite surfers and blokarts. Good to see others getting into wind sports. And I won't mention that on my first run I passed one of the blokarts ;-)

Ohope Beach

Wind 18 to 21 knots ENE

A great nor'easter had been promised for the weekend all week and despite it being still as all morning, the forecast nor'easter turned up around 2pm. By 4pm it had built up enough to get me interested, so I went out with my 2.2m C-Quad and PL Comp buggy. The first run had a nice max of 62.9 kph, but subsequent runs were hampered by the wind turning too easterly.

Ohiwa Harbour

Wind 10 to 12 knots S to SE

The log is going to be a bit sparse from now on as I've had to get an office job and my buggy sessions are restricted to the weekends. So this is my first session for the year in April and a relatively quiet one it was too. Just me, the 2.2m CQuad and my old PL Comp buggy out on the mudflats of Ohiwa harbour. Nothing amazing to report, just a top speed of 41.8 kph and a rough average speed of 26 kph over one speed run. However it was great to get out there again, just not sure how long it will be before the next session though!
